New sustainability strategy revealed
FEDERAL WAY, Wash., June 23, 2011 — Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) today announced its 2010 sustainability performance results are available online at www.weyerhaeuser.com/sustainability. The report also details the company’s new 2020 sustainability strategy, which establishes a number of new goals and targets while reinforcing existing commitments.
Weyerhaeuser’s 2010 sustainability achievements include:

Employees sustained their track record of safety excellence by maintaining a recordable incident rate of less than one. Seventy-six percent of the company’s facilities operated injury-free.

The company’s cellulose fibers mills reduced water use by 16 percent compared to 2007, making progress towards their goal of 20 percent by 2012.

One hundred percent of the 20 million acres of timberland the company owns or manages in North America maintained certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® standard.

The company reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent compared to 2000 levels, making progress towards its long-term goal of 40 percent by 2020.

The company’s five homebuilding subsidiaries continued to be acknowledged for leadership in building energy-efficient homes. Pardee Homes was recognized as the National Association of Home Builders' 2010 Green Building Corporate Advocate of the Year.

Weyerhaeuser employees gave 14,127 hours of their time to support 113 projects in communities where the company operates.

In 2011, Weyerhaeuser was ranked by FORTUNE magazine as the most admired forest and paper products company in the world. Weyerhaeuser tied for tenth in FORTUNE’s overall ranking of companies that are best in social responsibility. Weyerhaeuser was also included on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America (2010), the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (2011) and Corporate Responsibility Magazine 100 Best Corporate Citizens (2011).
Weyerhaeuser has published a sustainability report since 2002, following the guidelines recommended by the Global Reporting Initiative, a voluntary standard for corporate reporting on economic, environmental, and social performance.
