NAHB Research Center Grants First “Green Approved” Product Seals of Approval to iLevel by Weyerhaeuser

Mar 19, 2009

UPPER MARLBORO, Md., March 19, 2009 The NAHB Research Center introduces its “Green Approved” product seal of approval, and recognizes structural frame products from iLevel by Weyerhaeuser with the first certificates under the new designation.  The mark is intended to provide third-party evidence that building products meet specific scoring criteria for homes seeking certification to the National Green Building Standard™ (the Standard), a consensus-developed standard that was recently approved by ANSI.

iLevel’s full range of engineered wood products and solid sawn lumber are now designated as NAHB Research Center Green Approved products.  These include TJI® joists, TimberStrand® laminated strand lumber (LSL), Parallam® parallel strand lumber (PSL), Microllam® laminated veneer lumber (LVL), iLevel Framer Series™ Lumber, iLevel Premium Joists™ and all other wood structural framing products.

The Green Approved mark indicates third-party documentation and approval by the NAHB Research Center that a building product contributes to compliance of specific green practices for National Green Building Certification to the Standard.  Such products carry a certificate from the Research Center that identifies the specific sections of the National Green Building Standard under which the products can earn points. The Green Approved mark helps bridge the gap between manufacturers who make green products and builders and designers who want to use them. Green Approved products can be found from links on the Green Scoring Tool at www.nahbgreen.org.

“iLevel and Weyerhaeuser have long been committed to green building and operating our facilities and forests in environmentally responsible ways,” says Susan Swirsley, Director of Brand Marketing for iLevel.  “In addition to our products being certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative standard, the Green Approved product designation empowers builders to make an informed choice on products in their homes and simplifies the documentation process tremendously.”
