OrganicID™ Produces Functional Simplified 13.56/EPC-compatible RFID Tag

Jan 14, 2009

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., January 14, 2009 OrganicID™ today announced it has successfully fabricated a simplified CMOS 13.56MHz RFID device that includes much of the critical circuitry needed for an EPC-compatible device. The design of this more extensive, fully EPC-compatible Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag, which includes electrically programmable non-volatile memory, is expected to be completed soon.

This RFID tag is expected to be usable with currently available high-frequency RFID hardware in the marketplace.  Initial plans for the printed electronics technology platform will focus on the high-volume, item-level RFID market, with a secondary focus on future low-cost printed circuitry. The company’s research indicates the technology can also be used for smart sensors and biometric products.

OrganicID’s proprietary technology is supported by several U.S. and foreign patents and patent applications.  This technology is used to generate a low-cost 13.56 MHz RFID tag for use in tracking items through manufacturing and shipping.  The OrganicID platform represents an advance in the technology used to create organic item-level RFID tags.

"I am excited about the advances we have made toward a commercial product and process,” said Klaus Dimmler, OrganicID general manager.   “As we develop plans to move this high-potential innovation through to full-scale commercialization, we will be looking at the complete spectrum of alternatives to capture the value of this technology.”
