In conjunction with the event's 25th anniversary, a series of special forestry seminars are planned for Saturday, Feb. 10, at Weyerhaeuser's tree nursery on South Lone Elder Road in Aurora. At 8:30 a.m., master woodland managers from the Oregon State University Extension Service will offer a presentation about tree planting tools and techniques. At 9:15 a.m., Tim Lichen, outreach coordinator with Forests Forever, Inc., will talk about the Hopkins Demonstration Forest in Oregon City. At 10 a.m., a video about the reforestation of Mt. St. Helens will be shown. During the day, from 8 a.m. to noon, Oregon Trout will display its stream bank restoration for fish project.

The seedling sales are scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 10 and March 10 at the tree nursery. Aurora is located on Oregon Highway 99E, between Canby to the north, and Hubbard to the south. It is about 25 miles south of Portland and about 20 miles north of Salem.

Available species, popular for forest, ornamental or Christmas tree applications in Oregon and western Washington, most likely will include Austrian pine, Balsam fir, Canaan fir, Colorado blue spruce, Corkbark fir, Douglas-fir, Fraser fir, Giant sequoia, Grand fir, Korean fir, Nikko fir, Noble fir, Norway spruce, Ponderosa pine, Sitka spruce, Western hemlock, Western redcedar and White fir. Quantities on hand will depend on weather and soil conditions for lifting. Stock types include one-year-old containerized stock as well as 1 to 3- year-old bareroot seedlings, and range in size from 4-6 inches to 30 inches in height depending on the species.

Trees may be purchased individually or by the bag or box. Individual trees, regardless of species, cost 75 cents each. Prices for full bag or box quantities range from 25 to 55 cents per seedling, and the number of seedlings per bag or per box varies from less than 100 to more than 300, depending on the age and size of the seedling. Payment is by cash or checks only. All sales are on a first-come, first served basis. No advance orders will be accepted. Quantities on some stock may be limited.
