Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) today announced the appointment of Anne E. Giardini, 46, as vice president and general counsel for Canada, effective immediately.

Giardini previously served as assistant general counsel and assistant corporate secretary for Weyerhaeuser in Canada.

In her new role, Giardini reports directly to Sandy D. McDade, senior vice president and general counsel for Weyerhaeuser Company, and will continue to be based in the company's Canadian head office in Vancouver, British Columbia.

During her 12 years with the Canadian law department, Giardini has played a key role in a number of transactions, including the acquisition of MacMillan Bloedel Limited in 1999, the divestiture of the BC Coastal Group in 2005, and the recently announced combination of Weyerhaeuser's Fine Paper business with Domtar Inc. She also served as a member of the company's business conduct committee and was instrumental in strengthening Weyerhaeuser's relationships with aboriginal groups in Canada.

Giardini holds a B.A. (Economics) from Simon Fraser University, an LL.B from the University of British Columbia, and an LL.M. from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge.
