Located just 12 miles from the crater of Mount St. Helens, the Center offers spectacular views of the volcano and nearby elk, plus hiking and hands- on environmental learning opportunities for schools, families, seniors and tour groups.

The Forest Learning Center sits inside the blast zone of Mount St. Helens in southwest Washington. The Center's interactive displays tell the story of how active forest management has jump-started the renewal of this forest ecosystem, 26 years after a cataclysmic eruption that leveled whole forests and left behind a wasteland of ash and mud. Weyerhaeuser salvaged 850 million feet of timber, and then planted 18 million seedlings after the eruption. Today, this forest is healthy and productive because of Weyerhaeuser's active forest management.

Weyerhaeuser operates the Center in partnership with the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In addition to interactive displays, the Center features picnic and playground areas and a new gift shop with all new apparel. Tailored tours for groups are available by appointment.

The Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 15 to June 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 15 to Labor Day, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Labor Day to October 15. It is located on the west side of Mount St. Helens, two hours from Portland or Seattle. From I-5, take exit 49 to Highway 504 (Spirit Lake Memorial Highway) and continue east to Milepost 33. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.TheForestReturns.com.
