Weyerhaeuser, one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, produces fiber for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals and photographic-based papers. Specialty, or non-papergrade pulps, account for approximately 60 percent of its cellulose fiber product sales.

"Our new name more accurately reflects the nature of our products and our strategic direction," said Arnfinn Giske, vice president and manager of the Cellulose Fibers business. "This name emphasizes the uniqueness of fibers, the research done at the fiber level and the value that our products bring to our customers."

With one of the industry's largest research and development capabilities, Weyerhaeuser has been a leader in working with its customers to develop unique or specialized applications for cellulose fiber. Giske said the new name contributes to a brand identity that associates the business with that capability.

"Cellulose Fibers clarifies the characteristics of the products to current customers and those in new markets," Giske said. "The new name is an integral part of our branding and market development efforts."

Giske said the name change would not affect service or current products.
