The Forest Learning Center sits inside the 1980 blast zone of Mount St. Helens, located in southwest Washington. The interactive and educational exhibits highlight the return of the forests around the mountain.
"The Forest Learning Center helps visitors, young and old, understand the mysteries of natural disturbance and renewal," said Dick Ford, center director. "Through innovative, hands-on learning, the center helps people understand sustainable forestry and how it protects water quality and wildlife while providing the wood and paper products that people use every day."
In addition to interactive displays, the center features rare vistas of Mount St. Helens, elk viewing, picnic and playground areas, a paved nature trail and a gift shop. Tailored tours for groups are available by appointment.
The center will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 14 through June 14. From June 15 through Sept. 6, hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Sept. 7 through Oct. 15, hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From I-5, take Exit 49 to Highway 504 (Spirit Lake Memorial Highway) and continue east to Milepost 33.
