Steve McDaniel, Weyerhaeuser's new plant manager for this facility, said the plant is scheduled to begin operating by August 2006. When the plant is completed, it is expected to employ 16 people to manufacture the shear panel products.
The shear panels produced at the new plant solve builder's needs by utilizing the time tested benefits of wood construction in high seismic and wind zones. The TJ®-Shear Panels provide an easy-to-install, highly predictable system that utilizes the benefits of wood construction to residential and commercial builders.
"This new facility indicates the level of confidence that Weyerhaeuser has in Chino and Southern California's ability to provide for such a mill," McDaniel said. "Situated to meet our customers' needs, this project is very exciting and will produce a valuable product designed to promote safety during wind and earthquake events."
The plant will be located on the existing Weyerhaeuser Chino site that manufactures commercial trusses. Trusses manufactured at the existing Chino facility will be used in the construction of the new plant. The plant will have an automated line to build products safely.
