Weyerhaeuser Mount St. Helens Forest Learning Center Open to Visitors

  What:   Weyerhaeuser's Forest Learning Center, located inside the 1980
          blast zone of Mount St. Helens, is an excellent base of operations
          for news crews covering ongoing activity at Mount St. Helens.
          Vistas of Mount St. Helens are spectacular, and there is ample
          parking with a helicopter landing area.  Also, interactive
          exhibits and films offer superb background on the 1980 eruption
          and what has happened to the surrounding forest in the intervening
          24 years.

          The Center is open daily through Oct. 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
          Admission is free.

          The Center is jointly sponsored by the Washington Department of
          Transportation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and
          Weyerhaeuser.

  Who:    Weyerhaeuser forester Dick Ford was assigned to Mount St. Helens
          when it erupted 25 years ago and now manages the Forest Learning
          Center.  A lifelong resident of the area and an excellent
          storyteller, Ford managed the replanting of 18 million trees in
          the aftermath of the eruption.  He will be at the Center,
          welcoming visitors and explaining the role of sustainable forestry
          in the recovery of the Mount St. Helens ecosystem.

  Where:  The Forest Learning Center sits inside the 1980 blast zone of
          Mount St. Helens, located in southwest Washington near Toutle.
          From I-5, take Exit 49 to Highway 504 (Spirit Lake Memorial
          Highway) and continue east to Milepost 33.
